3 going on 16

She's so cute isn't she? All that blond hair, the chubby cheeks and the smile. Well let me tell you girlfriend has an attitude! Yep, I'm talking about little miss Kennedy. Alexis is very sweet natured. She says bless you when someone sneezes, will cover me up if I'm laying on the couch watching TV, loves to help out around the house and just generally has a very caring personality. Then along comes trouble with a capital T. I go between wanting to laugh at her and wanting to string her up by her little toes. We were at Wal-Mart the other day and she says to me: "If you don't give me that I am staying right here" and she plunked herself down on the floor beside a rack of tights. Now it took all the self control I had not to pick her up and drag her from the store. That's what she wanted though....a battle. So I said "OK then, you can stay there but I'm going to finish my shopping." I started walking away and sure enough she followed me with her arms crossed. Then she stops and looks up at me disgusted "You were just going to leave me there, mommy?". Today she told me she didn't want to clean up her mess "Just leave it.Daddy will clean in up when he gets home from work". That earned her a nice little time out. Todd says she is 3 going on 16. Stubborn and strong willed....I wonder who she gets that from?;)

Cheers,

Blog Tag

I've been Blog Tagged! So here are my 8 random facts......

1. Never again will I be a dog owner. Don't get me wrong, I like dogs. I would just rather borrow someone else's for a little while and then give it back. Kinda the same way other people feel about children.

2. I am a closet Trekkie. Enough said.

3. I hate clowns, they freak me out. I dunno if its the make up or the shoes or what. I think it stems from three very scary clown pictures I had on my wall as a child. My kids have never been to a circus and I will never watch "IT" again. Ever.

4. When I was pregnant with Kennedy I developed a Slurpee addiction that I just recently gave up. But only because the nearest 7-11 is 20 kms from our house. My butt is thankful for those 20 kms!

5. I've never been outside of Canada...not even to the United States! I have had the chance to see a lot of Canada though. I need to venture out the the east coast so I can say I have been to both. Mind you if I ever go back out to the west coast I can't promise I'll come home...it's one of my favorite places to visit. Put the coffee on Ghislaine!

6. When I was about 13 I went through a scary movie faze. I think I rented every horror flick our neighbourhood movie store had. One night while some of my girlfriends and I were having a sleepover and watching "Child's Play" my mom brought out my "My Buddie" doll. Remember him? Scared the crap out of us! We still laugh about it.

7. I've read the Harry Potter series about 5 times. I can't wait for the new movie to come out so I can complain about how it's not like the book at all. I also love historical fiction. My new favorite is "The Other Boleyn Girl".

8. I am becoming a scrap booking addict. I belong to a group called "The Scrap Booking Mama's". (I had that listed on the activity portion of my military application and the recruiter had a good laugh about it). We meet once a week and scrapbook and chat for a few hours. It's one of the things I am really going to miss when I'm away!

Lisa is the only person I know that blogs...come on people get with the program here!
Cheers!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you had a great time ringing in 2008. It was a pretty low key affair at the Blanchette house this year. It was just Todd and I and a bottle of champagne watching the ball drop on TV. Alexis was very upset she wasn't allowed to stay up till midnight and told us she was going to lay in bed and wait....she was fast asleep by 9:00.

Yesterday was an interesting day. Todd and I had to go down to city hall and get the girls OHIP sorted out and we also hit the Canex and then the mall for lunch. As far as we know the closest Canex to us is located at NDHQ. Anyone that has ever been there knows you have to clear security and get a pass before you can enter the building. Not an easy thing to accomplish with the girls but they thought it was pretty cool that they got to have a little card on their jackets . So we got our passes and went down to the teeny tiny Canex to get the last couple of things I have on my kit list (boot bands and a shoe polish kit and all that fun stuff). I swear for the amount of time it took and the cost of parking downtown it would have been easier to drive out to Petawawa! It's things like this that make me miss living on a "real" base.

Only 7 more days and I'll be in St.Jean! Hard to believe, the time has really flown by. It seems like yesterday that I was handing in my application. I never thought this would be the road my life would take me down. Those of you that know me at all know that I am apposed to women in the military as a general rule and that hasn't changed at all. But I do think that there is room for us in SOME trades as long as we can keep up with the men! You won't see me in line for a job in the infantry though, that's for sure. A lot of people ask me why I didn't go Air Force or reserve and my answer is that it's all or nothing for me, I've always been that way. Besides....redheads look better in green :)

I'm off to bake Todd a birthday cake! The big 2-8 for him today. I of course stopped having birthdays at 25 lol.

Cheers,

The End

So here we are with 3 days left in 2007. Christmas is over and done with for another year. And now we move on to a celebration I usually dread but not this year. Never in my whole life have I been so happy to see a new year come. 2007 was a LONG 12 months that for the most part I never want to relive. It had some good points: Lexie's first day of Kindergarten, Meeting all my scrapbooking girls, Getting in the army and getting my first choice, Todd being happy with his job after being miserable for two years, my awesome new friends from work that remind me that yes I am only 26 not 46, Getting better after my car accident (push ups anyone?) Weddings and new babies, and finally feeling settled in Ottawa although it will never feel like home. The few other things that were good about the year I will hold onto in my heart forever and just like my engagement story they will never be shared. Now If I could just erase the rest of the crap I could call the year amazing lol.
2008 promises to be full of adventure and new experiences for both Todd and I. I wonder daily how he will fair as a single Dad while I am away. I tell him all the time he will be fine and that payback is a bitch! All I ask is he feeds them half decently and makes sure they don't go out looking like little ragamuffins and everything will be fine. The rest of it is all small stuff and it will fall into place eventually. I am so excited to begin this new chapter in my life. I have been working hard to get ready to go. I am finally doing something for myself and it feels so good! My heart breaks at the thought of leaving my girls for so long but I am so thankful that they have a great dad to take care of them. And my mom will be coming to visit regularly! So bring on 2008! I wish you all a safe and happy 2008. Bonne Annee!
Sending Love and Laughter from Ottawa.

The Great Cat-tastrophe

The tree went up....the tree came down. Damn cat. I woke up to screaming the first morning it was up..."Mommy, Oscar is in the tree and he can't get out!". Not only was he in the tree but he was on the top branch sitting there like he owned the place. After a few days of fighting to keep him out of it I had enough. At first I was worried he would get all hung up in the lights and strangle himself and then I was wishing he would. I must have put that tree back together about 6 times! So I went out and bought a little 4 footer and set it up on an end table. We decorated it and put presents all around the base so now it's Oscar proof. Now if I can only keep him out of the bathtub.......

I hope your all enjoying your cat free trees!
Take care,

"O Christmas Tree"

I love Christmas. Everything about it makes me happy. The tree, the music, the lights, my kids excitement and the fight Todd and I get into every year about when to put up the tree. I have been begging the man for days to put it up to no avail so today after parent teacher interviews I am going to drag up the box and put the sucker up myself :P. This is a hard Christmas for us. It's our first year in many away from the crazy Blanchette Christmas celebration and we are really going to miss it. It will be nice to spend it with my mom though. It will be the first time for me to wake up on Christmas morning and open gifts with her since I left home. And how cute are the three little girls going to be! There will be lots of pictures!

So if you haven't heard the good news by now I'll share it again. My military application came through and I am swearing in December 18th! Then off to BMQ at "the Mega" in St-Jean on January 13th. My course Starts January 14th and I graduate April 18th ( I hope!) I am excited and freaking out at the same time. After basic it's SQ and then I go on my trades training for 6 months. Most of it is in Borden so I hope to be able to come home some weekends.

Well thats all for now. I'll try and post some pics when I get the tree up.
Merry Christmas!
